DIGGING FOR (COMMON) TREASURE
Exhibition titled ' Tragedy of the Commons?'
In Tragedy of the Commons, Charlotte Ladd explores what it means to be from England. Using alternative histories, she uncovers new and genuine ways that we might connect with our identities, beyond flag-waving and populist patriotism. Tragedy of the Commons has been an investigation into land use in England. It focuses on the life of the Diggers commune in 1649 who were the first recorded instance of communism in this country. The work Charlotte has created speaks to how the Diggers commune preserved nature through the creation of democratic rural communities. (Text from British Ceramics Biennial Fresh)
